Polyplacophora (78807)

Image of the creature

Polyplacophorans, or chitons, can be recognized by their 8 imbricating valves on their dorsal surface. They are epifaunal organisms found on a variety of surfaces, and feed on an even wider variety of prey. Chitons are zealous grazers and play an important role in increasing the survivorships of coralline algae, through the removal of filamentous algae.
