Maldanidae(67515)

Image of the creature

Maldanids, also called bamboo worms, are deposit feeding polychaetes that reside in hard tubes within the sediment. The uppermost section of each tube extends above the sediment, and as a result of this and the large quantity of sediment fed upon every day, they are important bioturbators that aid in the transfer of nutrients from the sediment to the water column.
